Two Lansing men charged with unarmed robbery

LANSING, Mich. — Update:

The Ingham County Prosecutors Office has criminally charged the two arrested suspects for their involvement in the unarmed robbery that took place in the 500 block of E. Saginaw on 3/18/19 @ 3:52 a.m. (see attached original Press Release).

Both were arraigned in 54-A District court in front of Magistrate Millmore (Johnson) and Judge Alderson (Carter) on the following charge(s):

Shawn Michael Carter (17 yrs. / Lansing, MI) – Original Press Release – Suspect #1

CHARGE:

Count 1: Unarmed Robbery (Felony)

Count 2: Assault and Battery (Misdemeanor)

BOND: $20,000.00 – Cash/Surety

Tommie Lee Johnson (18 yrs. / Lansing, MI) – Original Press Release - Suspect #2

CHARGE

Count 1: Unarmed Robbery (Felony)

BOND: Personal Resonances (P.R.) / $50,000.00


Both Carter and Johnson are next scheduled to appear in 54-A District court in front of Judge Ward on the following:

Probable Cause Hearing: 3/29/19 @ 1:15 p.m.

Preliminary Exam: 4/5/19 @ 8:30 a.m.

Today 3/18/19 at approximately 3:52 a.m. Lansing Police Department Officers were dispatched to the 500 Block of E. Saginaw for an Unarmed Robbery of the business. The suspects were gone on arrival.

The suspect #1 attempted to steal items and was confronted by the employee and a customer. A struggle happened and suspect #2 entered the business to help the first suspect. Suspect #1 assaulted the employee and the customer by punching them. The items were not taken. The suspects escaped in a vehicle and a partial license plate was obtained. The employee and the customer had injuries but did not want treatment at the scene.

At approximately 5:05 a.m. an officer saw a vehicle matching the description of the escape vehicle in the 1500 Block of N. ML King Blvd.. Contact made, and suspect #2 was arrested after more investigation was done. He was lodged at the Lansing Police Department and charges are being requested from the Ingham County Prosecutors Office.

Suspect #1 is still outstanding and is described as a white male in his 20’s. Last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants with a white stripe. Detectives are continuing the investigation.
