Lansing School District hosts anti-bullying summit

On Thursday morning nearly five-hundred students and eighty teachers filled the seats of Harry Hill High School Auditorium for a day-long fun and educational presentation which urged students to be kind, and end bullying. 

The event brought together 7th-12th grade students in the Lansing District who attend schools that have the Unified Champion Schools Program in their buildings. 

Schools that were in attendance included Eastern High School, Everett, Sexton, Wood Creek Academym Beekman Center, Wexford Motessori, Pleasant View, Dwight Rich and Gardner Middle School.

The summit, which was MC'd by FOX 47's Community Affairs Coordinator Kevin Brown, featured videos, speaker presentations, and a special appearance from Lansing rap artist, Rosco P. 

Rosco P. shared with students his experience with bullying while growing up and how he overcame it. 

Motivational speaker and entrepreneur from Detroit, Lamont Howard- better known as "Tank the Knowledge Bank" shared his background and message about the importance of a positive mental attitude. 

Through his interactive presentation, Howard also explained to students what bullying can be classified as, different types of bullying, and what students can do to end it. 

Lansing Police Officer Matthew Priebe shared information about the "OK 2 Say" program.

Video presentations included statistics about bullying, a message from Special Olympics CEO Tim Shriver, what it means to be a game changer. 

The event which was sponsored by a grant from the US Department of Education and Special Olympics Michigan is the 5th Annual Anti-Bullying Summit that the Lansing School District has held.
