The City of Lansing Election Commission has removed mayoral candidate Marc Townsend from the ballot because he was unable to prove he's lived in the city for long enough.

The city charter states candidates must be "a resident of the city for one year prior to taking office." That means Townsend and the other candidates in this year's election must have lived within the city limits since at least January 1 of this year.

Townsend did not attend Friday's Election Commission meeting or supply any proof of his residency according to Chief Deputy City Clerk Brian Jackson.

The decision leaves Andy Schor, Judi Brown Clarke, Harold Leeman, Jr., Danny Trevino and Michael Gillenkirk on the August 8 primary ballot.
