Plans to move Lansing city hall and turn the current location into a hotel are on hold indefinitely. Mayor Andy Schor made the announcement Tuesday. He says the city needs to know where 54-A District Court and the Lansing Police lockup will go before making any changes.

Last year then-Mayor Virg Bernero announced Beitler Real Estate Services would turn the current city hall at the corner of Capitol Avenue and Michigan Avenue into a hotel. It would also turn the old Lansing State Journal building into a new city hall. Both Bernero and Schor agree the estimated $55 million price tag to fix the current location is not worth paying given the opportunity to find a new location and add a second hotel downtown.

Mayor Schor did not set a date for choosing a sport for the court or the lockup. He does want to look into the possibility of merging the city lockup with Ingham County's lockup. He says that would save money and make both operations more efficient. He says the city will be looking into the possibility of sharing services and space with other communities.
