LANSING, Mich. — An officer with the Lansing Police Department is recovering in the hospital after being involved in an accident Thursday morning.
An LPD officer was on the scene after responding to a different accident on Interstate 496 westbound in between South Clemens Avenue and Cedar Street in Lansing around 12:15 a.m.
Lansing police say a vehicle traveling west on I-496 rear-ended the officer's patrol SUV.
The officer's SUV did have emergency lights flashing at the time of the crash, Lansing police said.
The officer and the woman driving the other vehicle were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Drugs and weather conditions are believed to be factors in the accident, police said.
The crash forced westbound I-496 to be shut down while emergency crews worked to clear the interstate of debris. The interstate has since reopened.
