Saturday the Lansing Police Department celebrated a great milestone over 100 years of service to the city.

“It's not just the great things that our police officers do to protect us, it's the great things they do to help build a greater community”, said Lansing Mayor Andy Schor.

For over twelve decades the Lansing Police Department has sworn to protect and serve the people.

The department still reign strong today, through the good times and tough days, LPD has been the first to respond through the many tests of time.

“There's not many police departments here in the state of Michigan that have been providing services to the community for 125 years so we're very thankful and grateful for the support that we get”, said Chief Mike Yankowski.

A support that Yankowski says is needed for a job that can mean life or death.

“We're the ones that get turned to solve all of the ill wills of our society”, Yankowski explained.

“We're going to give you the best effort and do it the most ethical, with the most moral character…that's what makes it so special.”
