Police officers from the Capitol Area Violent Crime Initiative (VCI) working with the Lansing Police Department Violent Crime Impact Team (VCIT) arrested escaped convicted murderer Charles Lewis, Jr. early Friday morning in Lansing.

His caseworker testified that he admitted he drank alcohol to cope with his mother's cancer diagnosis.

Lewis escaped his juvenile group home and was seen in the Lansing area a week before his mother, Trisha Lindsey died on September 11. Sources tell FOX 47 News he was devastated by her illness and recent death and wanted to attend her funeral.

Lewis is expected in Judge Economy's court this morning. He is being held in the Ingham County jail without bond.

LPD confirms that Lewis was arrested in the early morning hours of Friday, September 16, 2016 after they got information about Lewis's location. He was found at a home on Lansing's south side. Officers from multiple departments including Lansing Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Michigan State University Police , Bath Township Police, Michigan State Police, Ingham County Sherriff’s Department and East Lansing, worked to investigate and apprehend Lewis. Officer Merritt says that Lewis was arrested without incident.
