LANSING, Mich. — Some friendly competition took place between the Lansing Police and firefighters Thursday during their "Battle of the Badges Rib-off Fundraiser."

The cook-off is part of the Great Summer Jam which is in it's sixth year.

It's a fun family-friendly event where the community can meet and mingle with first responders.

It's the first year of the rib-off.

David Odom, of the Lansing Fire Department, said the event is a great way to interact with the community.

"A lot of times when you see the fire department and police department, we're always separate. We're trying to show the community that we're here for them. A unified front.we're trying to help the kids in the community," Odom said.

Besides the cook-off, there was a basketball tournament, face painting, prizes and more at the event. All of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Lansing Police Athletic League.
