A Lansing police officer has resigned from the department amid a criminal investigation underway by Michigan State Police.
Matthew Priebe resigned from the Lansing Police Department on June 22. He was a 10 year veteran with the department.
Chief Mike Yankowski first placed Priebe on administrative leave on May 31.
Michigan State Police is actively investigating allegations against Priebe, made by students of the Lansing School District.
Lansing Police Public Information Director Robert Merritt would not comment on the nature of allegations citing the investigation is still open and active.
According to the City of Lansing Community Policing website , Priebe was assigned to work at Eastern High School.
“All allegations or complaints against department members are taken seriously and thoroughly investigated,” said Yankowski, in a statement to FOX 47. “The allegation against Priebe in this matter is disappointing and once I was made aware of the allegations I took swift action to remove his police authority and requested the Michigan State Police to investigate the allegations.”
Lansing School District spokesman Bob Kolt told FOX 47 Thursday he was not aware of the allegations and is investigating.
Once Michigan State Police complete their investigation, the findings will be forwarded to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if any crimes were committed.
