SEBEWA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — UPDATE - The Lansing man who was killed after forcing his way into another man's house also stole a vehicle from another home, according to the Ionia County Sheriff's Office.

The vehicle Justin Eddy drove to the Sebewa Township residence was stolen from another home about two miles away.

Eddy's pickup truck was abandoned, left running with its headlights on, where the other vehicle was stolen, according to a press release.

The investigation shows that Eddy drove off in the stolen pickup truck, which was connected to a flatbed trailer and hauling heavy equipment.

He then drove that stolen pickup truck through other properties, damaging a truck and trailer, before he ended up at the house where he was shot and killed, according to the release.

A homeowner shot and killed a Lansing man who forced his way into his house on Tuesday night.

Deputies with the Ionia County Sheriff's Office were called to the 4000 block of East Musgrove Highway in Sebewa Township at 10:38 p.m for a burglary in progress.

The Sheriff's Office says the original dispatch said that an intruder had forced his way into the house, and when confronted by the homeowners, said he was being chased by someone else who was trying to kill him. The intruder has been identified has 40 year old Justin Eddy, of Lansing.

The homeowner armed himself with a gun and went outside with the Eddy, but could not find any evidence that someone had been chasing him. The men then went back inside the home, and the Eddy started acting erratically. The Sheriff's Office says Eddy became angry and assaulted the homeowner. The homeowner then shot and killed Eddy before deputies arrived.

The homeowner has not been arrested. The Sheriff's Office says it will submit evidence to the Ionia County Prosecutor's Office for review.

Investigators say there is no known connection between Eddy and the homeowners. They don't know why Eddy chose to break into that particular home. Drugs and alcohol are believed to be factors in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ionia County Sheriff's Office at 616-527-5737.
