A Lansing man died after falling into a lake at a campground in Ionia Wednesday morning.
Authorities said 47-year-old Pedro Lira was pronounced dead after he was pulled from the water at Lakeside Resort, in Orange Township just south of Ionia.
The Ionia County Sheriff's Office said it started with a call for a possible drowning, but evidence shows he may have suffered from a medical issue.
An investigation found a pre-existing medical condition might have caused Lira to fall into the water.
Deputies said they received a call of around 10:30 Wednesday morning of a possible drowning here at the campground site.
We are being told the man was not a registered camper at lakeside but he was there fishing with a friend when he fell in.
A group of young children a few docks down from Lira saw he was having trouble and reported it to the campground office.
The staff called 911 and began CPR, until crews from Ionia County Dispatch, Berlin-Orange fire department, and Life EMS responded.
At this time the owners of the park are not releasing any statements.
They told FOX 47's Alani Letang they are going to cooperate with police to handle the matter.
We will let you know as soon as we get an update.
