Lansing man charged with Unlawful Imprisonment

Police investigating a robbery identified a suspect, and when they arrived at his apartment they found a female victim.

Sunday just after 5:00 p.m. Lansing Police responded to the Vallarta Supermarket in the 300 block of W. Willow for a robbery. The suspect allegedly approached a cashier, displayed a handgun, and demanded money. He took money from the register, and fled on foot.

The investigation lead police to an apartment in the 600 block of Sadie Ct. They located Michael Adrian Payton, a 22 year old Lansing man. He was arrested without incident.

While officers were at the apartment they located a 22-year-old female acquaintance of Payton. She stated that she was a victim, and indicated that she had been held at the apartment by Payton and not allowed to leave. She was not injured and did not need medical treatment.

Payton was transported to the Lansing Police Detention facility.

Monday afternoon charges were issued on the suspect who was subsequently arraigned in 54-A District court in front of Magistrate Millmore on the following charges;

CHARGE:
Count 1: Armed Robbery (Felony)
Count 2: Weapons – Felony Firearm – Pneumatic gun (Felony)
Count 3: Unlawful Imprisonment (felony)
Habitual Offender – 2nd
BOND: $50,000.00 Cash/Surety

Payton is next scheduled in 54-A District court in front of Judge Clarke on;

Probable cause Conference: 3/17/17 @ 8:30am
Preliminary Exam: 3/24/17 @ 8:30 am
