Lansing leaders talk marijuana rules

LANSING, Mich. — Lansing leaders are feeling the pressure to clarify the rules for pot in the city.

The state will start accepting applications Nov. 1 for recreational marijuana businesses.

Lansing's public safety committee met this morning to work out some of the details.

That includes where people will be able to smoke.

Committee members have to decide how many businesses will be labeled as "consumption sites."

"I don't think our friends at the state did us any favors, and so there are a lot of channels that we have to navigate. The medical marijuana piece was very complex and this one is complex, as well," said Adam Hussain, Lansing City Council member.

The public safety committee plans to take this up again at its August 27 meeting.

It then goes to the planning board for review.
