LANSING, Mich. — An event providing resources for homeless veterans and those who are at risk of becoming homeless was held in Lansing on Tuesday.
The 16th Capital Area Stand Down for Homeless Veterans was going on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UAW local 652 on 426 Clare Street.
The stand down was organized by New Hope Community Center and Holy Cross Services in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
A color guard and brief ceremony began at 10 a.m. followed by services and lunch served starting at noon.
Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center Director, James Doelling, also spoke at the stand down.
According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, Doelling oversees the delivery of health care to approximately 45,000 veterans per year.
The federal government recently recognized Lansing as the third community in Michigan to effectively end veteran homelessness.
