LANSING, Mich. — The Lansing Fire Department used the pet oxygen masks that were donated earlier this month to help rescue a dog in a deadly fire Monday.
The early morning fire left at least one dog and one cat dead along with two other cats unaccounted for.
The pet oxygen masks were donated by Invisible Fence and are in every ambulance in Lansing.
The mask goes over the snout of the animal and is used exactly like a human oxygen mask.
This is the first rescue with these new masks.
Steve Mazurek, the public information officer for the Lansing Fire Department said, "We were able to make a save with one of the masks, so it was a positive outcome. They do work. It's a great thing we have these masks around the tri-county area for us to use to save peoples animals."
It took firefighters about 45 minutes to put out the fire completely.
