LANSING, Mich. — The city of Lansing is scheduled to vote on an ordinance aimed at regulating the motorized scooters that popped up in Mid-Michigan earlier this year.
After scooters from companies like Bird and Lime, the city rushed together a licensing agreement last October. That deal lasted 60 days, limiting each company to 250 scooters and a required flat $125 licensing fee.
Lansing City Councilman Peter Spadafore tells News 10 an ordinance expected to be voted on by city council members Monday night would charge each company upfront, $2,500 annual licensing fee along with a 10-cent, per ride surcharge for every scooter rented within Lansing's city limits.
The ordinance would also remove the 250 scooter limit from the first licensing agreement if approved.
But the ordinance is also expected to include language that allows Lansing to impose a cap on the number of scooters if needed.
Lansing City Council will meet Monday night at 7 p.m. at City Hall in Lansing.
