LANSING, Mich. — The LCC community came together to make the holiday season brighter for some Lansing area families.

The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs sponsored a Toys for Tots collection drive in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Andrew Cosgrove, Director, Office of Veteran and Military Affairs said, “Collection boxes were at our West Campus, Huron Building, University Center, Gannon Building and Administration Building. We collected 216 toys this year and we’ve donated at least 500 toys over the last three years.”

Generosity abounds campus-wide as coats, shoes and boots, socks, snow pants, gloves and scarfs have been collected in the hundreds and distributed through a partnership with Communities in Schools. Other items collected include shampoo, body wash, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other personal care items.

Marcella Fuhr with the Health and Human Services Division (HHS) said, “This year HHS adopted three families and we were able to cross off so many items on their wish list. Helping with this effort is the best part of my job and I’ll continue to do it for as long as I can.”

Fuhr shared a thank you note from one of the students, “Thank you so much for your generous donation! The food, clothes, and supplies you provided us with not only directly impacts the students by meeting their needs but also allows them to come and volunteer to organize the items.”

Giving to those in need is a college-wide effort to ensure that those in our community are not forgotten and that they know LCC cares.
