Lansing Community College announces new provost

LANSING, Mich. — LCC has announced Sally Welch as the college’s next provost. She will replace Elaine Pogoncheff, who is retiring at the end of July.

Welch joined LCC last fall as the associate vice president for Academic Affairs from Marygrove College where she held several leadership roles including co-chair of the Science and Mathematics Division, Faculty Assembly Vice President, Faculty Forum Officer, Principle Investigator, Construction Manager, Special Assistant to the President for New Program Development, Interim Dean of New Program Development, Interim Provost and Provost.

While at Marygrove College, Welch wrote, collaborated and managed several grants. She also wrote science curricula for several middle and high school programs.

LCC President Brent Knight said, “Sally is an inspirational leader who shares LCC’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. I expect her to be a creative and inspiring provost and a champion for student success.”

When asked what this role means to her, Welch said, “I am honored to have been selected as the provost for Lansing Community College. The mission of LCC resonates with my own commitment to serving the educational needs and professional aspirations of our students. LCC’s academic and student service programs are innovative, and the faculty is exceptional and devoted to providing students with an outstanding educational experience. LCC continues to demonstrate how higher education helps transform lives. I am proud to be part of this community and look forward to working with all of my colleagues to help further this important work.”

Welch holds a bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in chemistry from Wayne State University.
