The Lansing City Council will look at a resolution Monday night that would name city hall after former Mayor David Hollister.
Hollister served as Mayor from 1993 to 2003 before stepping down so he could run the state Department of Labor and Economic Growth under then-Governor Jennifer Granholm. Hollister was one of the leaders of the "Lansing Works, Keep GM!" movement that helped convince General Motors to build the Grand River and Delta Township plants in Mid-Michigan.
After leaving state government, Hollister ran the Prima Civitas Foundation, a non-profit that helps connect the public and private sectors to help create economic growth.
He led a team that reviewed the Lansing School District's finances and strategies and helped run the city's Financial Health Team. One of the FHT's proposals is to sell the current city hall and move it to a new location in downtown Lansing.
Current Mayor Virg Bernero first proposed the idea of naming it after Hollister during March's State of the City address.
