The Capital Area Humane Society is partnering with the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The Humane Society plans to send down some of its staff along with a transport vehicle, but the CEO of the Capital Area Humane Society said they still have some things to map out.
"It looks like we're sending four, but there's opportunity to possibly send more in the future. Details aren't perfectly clear just yet as the folks down in Texas are assessing the situation,"Julia Willson said.
The staff will help rescue the animals from the flooding, help try and reunite the lost pets with their families, and take in and care for any strays. However, not just anyone can go with them when they do head down.
"The organization that we're working with is requesting specific skill sets, so we're looking for people with experience with rescue and animal care, and also medical care for animals. There'll be different jobs we'll be sending people down there to do," she added.
Willson said they are ready to bring pets back to Michigan, and will send down more staff as needed.
Stray animals will be housed in a shelter, or brought back to Michigan for adoption.
