LANSING, Mich. — Lansing School District Board of Education honored deceased board member Shirley Rodgers by renaming the administration building in Rodgers' name.
Rodgers served as a district employee for 30 years and was elected onto the board in 2007.
Rodgers later held the position of board Treasurer where she helped maintain the school district's multi-million dollar surplus budget as well as a $120 million bond investment to improve school and building facilities in the district.
Rodgers died last January due to natural causes.
The Board of Education held a ceremony Thursday to honor Rodgers where friends, family, and co-workers shared personal experiences they had with her and spoke about her humor and diligence.
Superintendent Caamal Canul spoke highly of Rodgers and emphasized how much she will be missed saying, "She was a wonderful board member who provided us with stability and very insightful consideration of all the difficult decisions that we've had to make in the last 7 years."
Canul continued and said, "It's a really big loss for us not have Ms. Shirley around helping guide the ship."
