Lansing area Meijer store closed Sunday after fire damages building

A Lansing area Meijer location will be closed Sunday after fire damages a backroom area Saturday night.

First responders were called to the Meijer location on 5125 West Saginaw Street in Delta Township around 11:30 Saturday night due to reports of a possible structure fire. The location is directly across the street from the Lansing Mall.

When crews arrived on scene, smoke could be seen coming from a backroom near storage docks on the west side of the building.

The Delta Township Fire Inspector tells News 10 initial reports indicate the fire starting near a electronic hilo forklift in the backroom area.

It's unknown what kind of damage was done to the building or to any merchandise inside.

Customers and employees inside evacuated immediately, it's unknown how many were inside at the time.

Sprinklers did go off in the area at the time of the fire.

Nobody was injured.

Delta Township Fire continued the investigation into the morning hours to figure out exactly how the fire started.

Lansing, Lansing Township, and Windsor Fire Departments responded to the scene along with the Eaton County Sheriff's Department.
