Monday, July 20: The search for the missing boy in Lake Michigan continued Monday, as officers continue to search for a boy who went missing during red flag conditions on Sunday afternoon.
The teenager from Grand Rapids has yet to be found.
"Yesterday, we had a lot rougher conditions," said Lt. Lee Adams of Grand Haven Public Safety. "Today, as you can see, it's still pretty rough. Our crew has been working since eight in the morning, and have really been struggling with the waves, but they are doing what they can do."
The department continues to run sonar in search of the boy, as Adams advises that beach visitors pay attention to the red flags and proceed with extreme caution in the water.
"It's frustrating when you see red flags and you see kids still swimming in the water, like today," Adams said. "It's frustrating, but we just ask that people educate themselves about the lake, search for rip currents, and be careful with what they're doing."
Crews from Muskegon County Marine patrol, Norton Shores, Michigan State Police have helped with the search, as the Zeeland Fire Department has brought out a drone to help with the search.
Sunday, July 19: The water search was called off Sunday evening for a missing 14-year-old boy in Lake Michigan.
Officials say the teen, who was from Grand Rapids, went into the water at Grand Haven State Park shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday and is presumed drowned. His name is not being released at this time.
Human chains were formed and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter was being utilized during the search.
Grand Haven Public Safety Officers will continue a search of the beach throughout the night.
The Ottawa County Dive Team and Michigan State Police Dive Team will conduct a water search Monday morning.
