The City of Hudsonville took a step forward in pedestrian safety on Chicago Drive.

After citizens adopted a new pedestrian ordinance in Fall of 2019, the city placed the signs at the crosswalk that intersects the 45mph thoroughfare from Grand Rapids to Holland at School Avenue. The aim is to keep pedestrians safe, but their Facebook post announcing the change, the city stressed the importance of continued caution.

"Although the new RRFDs are intended to bring Chicago Drive traffic to a stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk, YOU SHOULD STILL ALWAYS CROSS WITH CAUTION AND WATCH FOR ONCOMING VEHICLES!" The post warns.

All vehicles are required to stop for pedestrians within the marked or unmarked crosswalk or receive a civil infraction.
