Two people were injured after getting swept into Lake Michigan over the weekend.

Emergency crews responded about 3:10 p.m. Saturday after a caller reported two people had been out on the break when one of them appeared to have been swept off into the lake, a news release said.

Officers were able to get a “throw rope” to one of the men, who went into the water a few feet from the lighthouse.

An investigation revealed both men had slipped into the water because of high waves and algae build-up on the break wall, making it slippery.

A 20-year-old man from Otter Lake was able to get himself back on to the break wall and had minor injuries.

Life EMS transported the second person, a 21-year-old man from Metamora, to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital for suspected hypothermia.
