Good Samaritans at Holland State Park rescued three people struggling in the water, including one water and two children, before the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office arrived on scene

On Tuesday, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office responded to a water rescue at the Holland State Park on reports of 3 people struggling in the water.

As units arrived on scene, information was provided to responders that all 3 were now out of the water and EMS was requested for evaluations.

Investigation showed that 2 girls, ages 15 and 9, were playing in the water along the shoreline.

At that time, a reported Rip Current started to pull the girls out into the lake and they began to struggle in the large waves.

Upon seeing the girls struggle, their Aunt, who was on the beach with them, went into the water to rescue them and also began to struggle in the water.

Good Samaritans on the beach and pier then entered the water and threw life rings to the subjects.

All three subjects were helped out of the water and back to the beach.

All three were evaluated by EMS on scene and refused transport to the hospital.

The red flags were posted and visible on the beach at the time of the incident. Waves were reported to be nearly 5 feet.

The Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public to follow the guidelines of the posted flags while at the beaches, avoiding swimming in any unsafe water conditions.
