LANSING, Mich. — Lake Michigan has gotten more dangerous for swimmers than it was last year as drownings in the lake have increased.
A drowning last night in Chicago brings the total for this year up to 22.
That's a 57% increase from last year.
We previously reported that the National Weather Service issued a warning for everyone to stay out of the water from Muskegon south and back around to Milwaukee.
The biggest problem causing issues for swimmers is the wind, which creates bigger waves causing dangerous rip currents.
A total of 44 people have drowned in the Great Lakes this year.
