Jeffery Dean Pearson, a 54-year-old man, from Laingsburg died after falling through ice on a private pond.

It happened Saturday afternoon in Clinton County's Victor Township on the 9000 block of South Upton Road.

A 56-year-old man from Dewitt was with him and also fell through the ice. He was taken to Sparrow Hospital and has since been released.

The two men were ice fishing when the accident occurred.

The pond they were fishing on was about 200 feet by 115 wide, with a general depth of 12 feet. They'd been cutting holes in the ice, and moving around the pond looking for fish.

A woman who had been with them, and left, heard the men yell for help. She drove up in an ATV and threw a rope with a flotation cushion tied to the end of it out to the men.

She managed to pull the surviving man out of the water, but unfortunately, Pearson wasn't able to hold on any longer.

Two other men fall through ice on lakes in southwestern Michigan Saturday. Authorities are warning people to stay off lakes until the ice re-freezes.
