Kalamazoo’s emergency management office says water levels in the Kalamazoo River are dropping after an ice jam.
As of Thursday morning, the river has dropped below an “action stage” of 7 feet and there are several slight openings in the ice jam. Emergency managers say there could be fluctuations in the river level throughout the day.
Officials are still concerned another ice jam could form in narrow areas of the river where ice has built up along the banks.
As a precaution, a flood warning will continue through Friday morning.
Property owners along the river from Morrow Dam to King Highway are advised to remain alert for quickly changing water levels. People are also advised to avoid all ice on the banks.
