The state has revoked the mortuary science licenses of a southern Michigan funeral home and its manager for failing to deposit prepaid funeral funds with an escrow agent.
Royal Funeral Home in Battle Creek and Richard L. Royal are named in a complaint. Michigan’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs says that as of Jan. 31, 2019 more than $269,000 for prepaid funeral services on 92 contracts had not been placed in escrow or trusts.
Services were provided for 20 of the contracts. The state says about $78,000 was not paid toward more than $194,000 in ordered restitution.
