All City of Battle Creek water customers are under a boil water advisory until further notice, due to a significant leak on a 16-inch water main behind the former Kmart near Capital Avenue SW and Dickman Road.
This includes all customers on the city water system, the entire City of Springfield, and the following townships served by city water: Bedford, Emmett, Leroy, and Pennfield.
As a safeguard to health, the City of Battle Creek is advising people to boil water before using it for consumption.
The break has caused water pressure to decrease to levels that could allow contamination to enter the water system. There are few customers who lost water service completely.
Battle Creek says the water main was repaired overnight and water samples were sent early Wednesday morning. Results are expected to come back by 5 a.m. Wednesday, and the city will know if it can lift the advisory.
Residents who have discolored water should do a cold flush. Instructions on how to do so are on the city's website.
