WEST MICHIGAN — After several inches of snowfall earlier this week across portions of West Michigan, another storm arrives New Year's Day with a wintry mix. Friday's system will bring more chances for freezing rain and sleet for communities along and south of I-96 and mostly snowfall for those north of I-96.
A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect for nearly everyone across West Michigan starting around midday Friday give or take an hour continuing until 7 o'clock Friday evening ( the counties adjacent to Indiana ) or 7 o'clock Saturday morning ( the rest of the viewing area ).
A wintry mix will move in from south to north starting around 10/11 am on New Year's Day. Travel can be difficult with freezing rain possible and a mix of sleet and snow.
As we go through the afternoon the system will continue to push more and more northward. Anytime around or after 1 o'clock we will see mainly snow push in along and north of I-96.

Eventually through the evening and overnight heading into Saturday morning we will all transition over to snow before the system completely pulls away.
A small amount of ice can cause a lot of problems with difficult road travel and even possible power outages. We expect most totals to be around a tenth of an inch of ice with a quarter of an inch not out of the question in southern and especially southeastern sections of the viewing area. Stay alert and drive safe if you absolutely have to travel on Friday afternoon and evening.
Snow is expected mainly along and north of I-96 with some locations picking up a quick few inches Friday evening. The general range of accumulation around I-96 and northward will be between 1-4 inches.
