Most stores are offering dedicated shopping hours amid the COVID-19 outbreak, but one woman in Kent County is taking it a step further.
Linda Scott is shopping for older people, and delivering their groceries, free of charge.
Scott began by driving seniors to the store to shop, but says she is now doing it all after Governor Whitmer's stay-at-home order. She will pick up a list, shop for the items, and then drop them off.
"I personally serve about 20 people. In different ways, anywhere from a ride to picking up groceries to dropping off stuff that I have available to bring them. Any of those services that I’m able to provide,” Scott told FOX 17 News. “If I had the resources and the funds I would love to be able to make this my own project and help as many as I’m able to, with as many people as I’m able to put together to help. And I know a lot of people who would volunteer to do this."
Scott says she is simply doing her part to help keep the most vulnerable safe.
"While I feel our local stores are doing their best to help the community through the difficult time, most stores offer special senior shopping hours, which is wonderful, but let's look at what other services the stores may offer to help keep seniors safe.. and more importantly, to save lives," she said. “If we offer them free pickup and delivery services of groceries, this would keep the most vulnerable of our seniors,to keep them out of the stores and help stop the spread of Covid-19."
