Dr. Dan McGee work at Helen Devos Children's hospital. He said wearing a mask is important to protect yourself...and those around you.

“You can be totally asymptomatic, and you can be carrying the virus in your nose or in your throat,” Dr. Dan McGee said.

Under Governor Whitmer's executive order, you are required to wear a mask at indoor spaces. McGee says you may still be at risk even if you're outside.

“Especially when you’re outside and exercising, you can spread the virus that much further,” McGee said “It may go 12 feet instead of the 6 feet that everyone talks about."

McGee says wearing a mask is the right thing to do.

"If you don’t wear a mask, you’re being selfish. You’re enabling the spread of the virus to others,” McGee said.

Under Whitmer's order, people with certain medical conditions are permitted to not wear a mask. McGee says those conditions are far and few between.

“There are very few instances where you are medically unable to wear a mask,” McGee said.
