Experts say their harmless, but some people describe them in a different way.
“They are super annoying”, said Lansing Township resident Chelsea Oakes about boxelder bugs.
“They're in the house all the time and I see them like up in the curtains and it’s hard to get them out of there, I hate them.”
Entomologist Howard Russell says boxelder bugs are crawling out of their winter hiding spots, trying to creep their way to the sunshine.
What can you do to get rid of them?
Russell says not much.
“There's no real way to get rid of them”, Russell explains.
“It's best to try to do something in the fall of the year when they're on the outside of the house… spraying either with an insecticide or soapy water to kill them before they find their way in.”
If boxelder bugs are giving you the blues, try a dose of patience.
“Either they'll eventually find their way out or they'll die trying and people won't see them inside the home until next fall”, said the entomologist.
If you want to minimize your chance of getting boxelder bugs in your home, experts say seal the cracks in your doors and windows.
