Kate Rodeman issues statement following sentencing of husband's killer

Posted

The wife of slain Lansing Firefighter Dennis Rodeman issued a statement following the sentencing of his killer.

"These past two years, I have learned that acceptance is the key and not everything is meant to be.

Letting go is never easy but I choose to be free from the things that continue to break me. As hard as it may be, I made a choice to stop touching the wound so I can also stop bleeding. In between all the struggles and pain, I will always have the courage to choose happiness. It is what Dennis would want.

I cannot say THANK YOU enough to everyone who has been there for me and my son, Blake. Your love, support, kindness and prayers made it possible to get to where I am now. I am still standing because of the people in my life.

Sincerely,
Kate Rodeman"

Rodeman's killer, Grant Taylor, was sentenced 30-40 years in prison on Thursday.

He pleaded guilty to second degree murder, fleeing police, and failure to stop at the scene of accident.

Taylor killed Rodeman in a hit and run two years ago while firefighters were out collecting donations for charity.
