The first person shot during the rampage in Kalamazoo allegedly by an Uber driver says she doesn't hate the suspect.
Tiana Carruthers held a press conference Thursday at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo to update the community on her recovery.
The 25-year old mother has been called a hero for acting as a shield between the gunman and children on the playground at her apartment complex. She was shot four times on February 20th by alleged shooter Jason Dalton as she blocked his bullets from hitting the children.
Carruthers was emotional speaking about her recovery saying it has been a hard road. She says during the weeks of painful recovery the only thing she could focus was on her daughter's smile. She thanked community members for their prayers and support.
Carruthers says she doesn't hate the suspect. She says she doesn't know why she doesn't hate him, and she feels like she should hate him, but she does not.
Carruthers is now home from the hospital and she says home is the place where she feels secure.
Carruthers and 14-year old Abigail Kopf were the only two to survive the shooting rampage. Six people died on February 20th.
Abbie Kopf is expected to go home next week.
