Justice for Deven Guildford rally

Posted

Facts of the case:

  • Last February an Eaton County Sheriff’s sergeant shot 17-year-old Devin Guilford.
  • Deven was pulled over for flashing his lights at Sergeant Frost.
  • Toxicology reports show that THC (active ingredient in marijuana) was active in Guilford's system at the time.
  • There were no charges brought to the officer that shot the teen.

Here is just one side of the story of this tragic incident that happened last year:

"17 year old Deven Guilford was driving home from church when he flashed his lights at a police officer because he believed his bright lights were on. Sgt. Jonathon Frost then pulled him over and they started arguing about if the officer had his bright lights on or not. Deven asked the officer for his badge number and the officer would not give it to him. That is when Deven pulled out his cell phone and started to record what was going on. Deven was then asked for his drivers license and proof of insurance but he didn't have it on him. The officer keeps asking for the license to which Deven refuses. Frost then pulled open the car door and tries to pull Deven out while he still has his seatbelt on. He makes Deven lay on the ground on his stomach in the road. The cop is yelling at Deven to put his hands at his sides but Deven is trying to record the situation on his phone. The cop then tases Deven and both cameras go dark. 13 seconds later and you can hear the gun shots, Deven is shot 7 times, once in the head. There were no life saving measures that night and Deven died. Deven's girlfriend was first on the scene bringing him his driver's license, she was not informed that Deven was lying on the ground dead. Deven's mom has FOIA information that has never been released to the public, it will be spoken about at the rally."

The rally will be a celebration of Deven’s life and a call to action to hold Eaton County Sgt. Jonathan Frost accountable for his actions.

The rally will take place on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m held at the Michigan State Capitol Lawn.

Details of the rally are modified from the press release.
