LANSING, Mich. — It may be a month before we find out if former MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon will stand trial.
In court on Tuesday, Judge Reincke did give us a hint.
She said documents that she has looked at indicate that there is probable cause to have Simon stand trial on a charge of lying to police about when she first learned that Larry Nassar had been accused of sexually assaulting patients.
The defense used a legal technicality to argue that Simon shouldn't have been charged.
They grilled a state police detective on whether or not Simon knew she was being questioned as part of a criminal investigation when she denied knowing about the Nassar allegations.
They argued that she wasn't aware, which legally means the charges shouldn't stand.
Mayer Morganroth, Simon's defense attorney said, "Well the goal today is to show that there is no merit there. And I think we are well on our way there."
Two of Simon's lawyers were at the interview when Simon denied knowing about the Nassar allegations.
They have been subpoenaed to testify and have filed a motion to block that.
