Former Michigan State University gymnastics coach Kathie Klages was in court Wednesday morning.

A motion was denied to dismiss charges against Kathy Klages of lying to police during the Nassar scandal, which is a felony. (Source WILX)Attorneys for Klages sought to throw out evidence in the case against her during a pretrial hearing before Ingham Circuit Court Judge Joyce Draganchuk.

The defense said police lied to Klages in order to secure her statement, but if she had known she was being recorded formally it would have changed the context of the interview.

Judge Draganchuk denied the motion.

Judge Draganchuk said that while she agrees that police should be honest during the process of securing information, that there is a body of law that allows police to use deceptive practices in order to secure information.

Klages is charged with one felony count and one misdemeanor county of lying to police in the Michigan Attorney General's Office investigation into the Larry Nassar scandal.

She faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
