JACKSON, Mich. — 20-year old Jerred Ballard was sentenced on Thursday morning.

He pleaded guilty in April to second degree murder and felony firearms charges in the shooting death of 18-year old Zachary Frey.

Frey died after being shot on Union Street in the backseat of a vehicle last November.

The bullet hit Frey in the head, killing him.

“The Jackson City Police Department did an excellent job investigating this case, particularly Detective Noppe,” said Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka.

Ballard was sentenced to 30-60 years in prison for second degree murder and 2 years for felony firearm.
