JACKSON, Mich. — Jackson will not appeal a judge's order putting Cindy Eby on the city's mayoral ballot. Eby was originally disqualified from the race because she turned her petitions in before they were notarized. She argued the forms were notarized but that the city clerk's officer told her to re-sign them. Jackson County Circuit Court Judge John McBain sided with Eby on Monday and ordered her name to be put on the August 6 primary ballot. Eby will be running against Mayor Derek Dobies and city councilman Jeromy Alexander. The two highest vote getters in the primary will move on to the general election in November. The city released the following statement about the decision not to appeal:
"The City of Jackson has decided it will not appeal a Jackson County judge’s ruling to allow a candidate to appear on the ballot in the upcoming August Primary Election. The Clerk’s Office is moving forward with following the judge’s order, by launching a citywide primary election for the Mayoral election on Tuesday, Aug. 6. City officials are now working with the Clerk’s Office on putting new protocols in place for all staff to follow when receiving petitions."
