JACKSON, Mich. — Jackson police are investigating the shooting death of 46-year-old Albert James Flowers.

Officers were called to the 200 block of Third Street, between Washington Avenue and Michigan Avenue.

Flowers was pronounced dead at the scene.

His friends say Flowers was on Facebook Live when the shooting happened.

"Every time you turn around something is going on in Jackson, either someone's been shot, stabbed, robbed. It's getting so bad here. This is like a little mini Detroit if not worse," said Flowers' friend Lola Fleming.

Jackson Police Department Director Elmer Hitt tells FOX 47 News the shooting does not appear to have been a random act and it looks like the victim and shooter had some sort of connection.

"At this point, I don't really know for sure how many times he was shot, but it's fair to say at least twice," said Director Hitt.

Police are following leads, but no arrests have been made.

Jackson High School is less than a half mile from the scene.

The school was on lockdown for just over an hour Tuesday morning.
