A Jackson native takes home the top prize in a recent skydiving competition.
33-year-old Johnny Gunn won the overall gold medal--- as well as gold in the speed event--- in the advanced class at the 2016 U.S. Parachute Association National Skydiving Championships of Canopy Piloting. It recently took place at Skydive City Zephyrhills in Florida.
Nearly 60 skydivers took part in the competition--- showing off their aerial skills in canopy piloting--- or "swooping".
The competition focuses on speed, distance and precision--- with skydivers using their parachutes to maneuver as quickly as possible through a course--- at speeds of up to 90 an hour--- and stop on an exact spot for maximum points.
Gunn, who owns Top Gunn Aerosports in Yuma, Arizona, has completed more than 5,000 skydives since first taking up the sport in 2005.
Congratulations to him!
