A 52-year-old Jackson man was shot in the midsection with a handgun by his step-son, police say.

Officers with the Jackson Police Department were dispatched to a home in the 1200 block of Laurel Lane for a report of a shooting just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, a press release states. The victim was found to be shot one time, and was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance, where he is in critical condition, according to the release.

A suspect was quickly identified as the victim’s step-son, who was not present when police first arrived. At about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, the suspect turned himself in at the Jackson Police Department, and was taken into custody without incident, states the release.

The case will be sent to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office with a request for criminal charges.
