The federal government is sending nearly $3 Million to help prevent lead poisoning here in Mid-Michigan.

The money will be used to remove lead paint from older homes in Jackson, which has the second-highest lead-poisoning rate in Michigan.

Almost 11 percent of kids in the city have too much of it in their systems.

Jackson started a new program last year requiring landlords to get a certified lead assessment before renting a property.
