JACKSON COUNTY, Mich. — A Jackson County middle school teacher is under investigation after accusations of inappropriate conduct.

FOX 47 News has been working this story to find out the details into why a middle school teacher at Vandercook Lake Middle School in Jackson County is on paid administrative leave.

What we have been able to confirm is that the teacher is accused of spanking a female student.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department confirms they have received a report and are investigating but would not comment further.

One mother who lives in the community says the town is talking about it.

"Actually, people are saying that they aren't very surprised. That school has been going downhill for a long time. I hope the school gets better. Honestly, somebody needs to come in and really look at things at that school. They've been being run wrong for a very long time," said parent Christina Hamlin.

Vandercook Lake Public School Superintendent Scott Leach was not able to give us any specifics on who the teacher is but said they are conducting an investigation into a complaint that was filed.

The teacher in question was immediately placed on paid administration leave pending the results of the investigation. Leach also says the district is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.

We will continue to follow this and will pass along any details we get.
