Prosecutors in Jackson County have charged a Springport Township man for the shooting deaths of two teenagers in June at a home in the 13000 block of Town Road.
Tracy Lawrence was arraigned Thursday on two counts of second degree murder and felony firearm. He's accused of shooting Hunter Lentz and Matthew McMillen, both of Jackson County, on Wednesday, June 8.
Police at the time told us it appeared there was some sort of theft going on and a confrontation between the suspect and victims turned deadly.
Based on a report by the Michigan State Police, prosecutors allege Lawrence went out on the porch with a rifle after noticing people behind the home standing near his truck. He yelled at the two people, who took off and ran toward the backyard.
Prosecutors allege at some point, Lawrence opened fire, hitting Lentz in the head and McMillen in the back. Officers found both their bodies in the yard not far from the home when they arrived.
Prosecutors allege neither Lentz or McMillen ever attempted to break into the home and allege that both were unarmed.
If convicted on the charges, Lawrence faces up to life in prison. Bond has been set at $25,000. Lawrence is due back in court for a preliminary examination later this month.
