Jackson County business destroyed by fire

SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire that destroyed a Jackson County business on Tuesday, August 6.

The fire at Powers Re-Sale Store, located at 2900 Page Avenue in Summit Township, started around 11 p.m.

Flames and heavy smoke could be seen pouring out of the building by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.

Several fire trucks had Page Avenue blocked off as emergency crews battled the fire.

The owner of shop tells Fox 47 the fire started in the ceiling in the back of the shop.

The flames were able to spread forward and destroyed all the merchandise inside.

No one was hurt in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but the owner thinks it might have been electrical.

The Blackman-Leoni Township Fire Department was assisted by the city of Jackson Fire Department, Summit Township Fire Department, Henrietta Township Fire Department, Spring Arbor Township Fire Department, Napoleon Township Fire Department, Jackson Community Ambulance, and the Jackson County Disaster Assistance Response Team.
