JACKSON, Mich. — The plan that we reported on earlier today was presented to the Jackson City Council and passed this evening paving the way to better roads in Jackson.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The council woman behind a 20-year plan to fix Jackson roads will present her plan to peers on Tuesday night.

Councilwoman Colleen Sullivan has a $160 million plan.

She needs $97 million from a millage and the rest, $64.5 million, from special assessments.

She says that she is proposing a creation of a special roads fund in the city of Jackson's charter to do just that.

If the council approves her plan, voters will have the final say in the May election.

There are 155 miles of roads in Jackson.

Sullivan says this is how she proposes to fix them:
65 miles of local streets would see a deep mill and repave
32.5 miles of local streets would be completely reconstructed
25 miles of major and local streets would see minor repairs
21.7 miles of major streets would see a deep mill and repave
10.8 miles of major streets would be completely reconstructed

The Jackson City Council meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 at the City Hall, located on the 2nd Floor, at 161 W. Michigan Avenue in Jackson.
